Species Guidance

EIMS includes summaries for High Priority Wildlife species in northern BC. Each summary provides:

Key habitat features
Management objectives
Species-specific planning and operational measures
Relevant regulatory documents and guidance sources
Links to Areas under Order (UWRs and WHAs) related to each species

The guidance outlines expectations for applicants planning activities within sensitive habitats, including required timing windows. It is essential that applicants, in consultation with qualified professionals, identify key habitat features potentially impacted by their proposed activities and implement the appropriate planning and operational measures. Survey and setback requirements for Wildlife Habitat Features (WHF) apply. (See Section 1.9 of the EPMG for details.)

B-AMBI-American Bittern

The American bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus) is a wading bird in the heron family, breeding in Canada and northern U.S., and wintering in the Gulf Coast, Florida, Caribbean, and Central America.

B-BAYW-Bay-breasted Warbler

The bay-breasted warbler (Setophaga castanea) is a small species of songbird in the New World warbler family, Parulidae. It is one of thirty-four species in the diverse genus Setophaga.

B-BTNW-Black-throated Green Warbler

The black-throated green warbler (Setophaga virens) is a small songbird of the New World warbler family. It has an olive-green crown, and a yellow face with olive markings.

B-CAWA-Canada Warbler

The Canada warbler (Cardellina canadensis) is a small boreal songbird of the New World warbler family. It summers in Canada and northeastern United States and winters in northern South America.

B-CMWA-Cape May Warbler

The Cape May warbler (Setophaga tigrina) is a species of New World warbler. It breeds in North America. Its breeding range spans all but the westernmost parts of southern Canada

B-COWA-Connecticut Warbler

The Connecticut warbler (Oporornis agilis) is a small songbird of the New World warbler family. These medium-sized warblers measure 13–15 cm (5.1–5.9 in) in length.

B-GBHE-HE-Great Blue Heron, Herodias Subspecies

The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands.

B-LASP-Lark Sparrow

The lark sparrow (Chondestes grammacus) is a fairly large New World sparrow. It is the only member of the genus Chondestes.

B-NESP-Nelson's Sparrow

Nelson's sparrow (Ammospiza nelsoni) is a small New World sparrow.

B-RUBL-Rusty Blackbird

The rusty blackbird (Euphagus carolinus) is a medium-sized New World blackbird, closely related to grackles ("rusty grackle" is an older name for the species).
