Minimize disturbance in late winter period. Critical activity to be completed Nov01-Jan30

Minimize habitat loss, alteration and degradation, prevent fragmentation and retain large leave areas.

Maintain key arboreal & terrestrial lichen.

Limit access and linear disturbance. Enhance visual screening and maintain a network of connected forest for caribou mobility.

Reduce sensory disturbances and displacement of caribou.

Avoid:

Peatland complexes

Fens and black spruce bogs

Complex water bodies

Mature black spruce stands (lichen)

Lichen bearing stands

Mature pine leading stands

Planning Measures:

No roads no trails

No forest cover removal

Coordinate access

Construct access to the lowest standard possible (as long as safety elements are met)

Minimize impacts to lichen:

Avoid pine leading forest

Retain old forest (>120 years old)

Operational Measures:

Minimize disturbance in winter period. Critical activity to be completed (Nov01-Jan30).

Minimize predator mobility and attractants

Apply shrub bands and line of sight barriers

Prevent openings that attract ungulates.

Minimize snow ploughing

Minimize impacts to lichen:

Use snow cover and frozen ground to prevent ground disturbance

Retain tree patches for dispersal of lichen

Mitigate and restore:

Promptly deactivate access

Expedite the regeneration of lichen-bearing coniferous
