Primary Species Information - Marbled Murrelet
Key Habitat Features
- Nest on large, mossy limbs in the canopy of large (30m and taller) conifers in old forest.
- Nesting habitat is typically associated with:
- Stands of class 1 – 3 nesting habitat;
- Within 50 km of seawater; and
- at an elevation of <=600 meters
Objectives
- Minimize disruption of nesting marbled murrelet.
- Plan activities so that nests (occupied and unoccupied) continue to be readily used by marbled murrelet.
Planning Measures
All Activities
- Within identified habitat, employ a QP to identify any nesting habitat within the proposed activity location and construction corridor (where applicable). If nesting habitat is identified, avoid activity during the nesting window.
Operational Measures
All Activities
- The onus is on the applicant to refer to relevant region-specific timing windows for all high priority wildlife species and consider these as an inherent part of planning and operations, in order to alleviate species-specific impacts during key lifecycle timing.
